Yes, yes and yes! it is always worth it. Any interest you take and any additional support you can provide makes a difference. The work done in Primary school makes a huge difference. I agree that adolescence and secondary can see these children crash and burn but not all of them. The attention and time you give these children at primary can be the difference between failing and achieving. I know these kids won’t be the leaders of the future but if they arrive at Secondary having had some support, we continue to build on that with alternative courses and the limited support available at Secondary. There are also so many 6th form centres that are offering support and vocational training. A few will always fall through the net, including those that do not have SEN. Please don’t ever think what you do isn’t worth it. You make a difference every day just by being there. We all do.
