Making the decision to close schools is not necessarily going to be taken for educational reasons, or even with the general well being of the children in mind. Places that have already taken the decision to close ( I work in the US) are experiencing all kinds of other pressures, and sometimes do not actually have the choice. But if you do decide to close, there are many different ways of continuing to serve the children – not just setting up e learning ( which we only started putting in place a week ago) but providing for their mental and emotional well being. We are continuing to do things like assembly, values education, supporting kids’ self esteem and are very mindful of the psychological impact of rapid change. What you are able to put in place does depend somewhat on technological resources at your disposal. It is also about supporting the families of course!
