Social communication. Is the profile spiky? Often a graph showing where they are for this alongside that is a stark illustration to parents that there is slower progress in one or more areas, as well as areas of strength. With spectrum disorders parents often don’t want to know especially with compliant children – as girls are more likely to be. Have you asked them if they have concerns around friendships? Are there sensory behaviours you could ask about – hand flapping, ear covering, tiptoe walking, fussy eating, sensory seeking with deep pressure, etc. Those are the things they’ll maybe have noticed at home.
