I find it very hard to talk about a child being ‘below expectation’. It is an incredibly harsh judgement of anther human being. I would not dream of declaring my parents, my husband as being ‘below expectation’. More respectful of both the child’s and the parents’ integrity I find is to say: the currriculum of (say, Year 1) offers the learning of X. Y.Z. It also assumes that the pupils have in their possession A, B, C skills. What we need to do here is to find ways for Bob to acquire these A, B, C skills. Wed like to explore optons with you- lets look at all the choices we have availbale and work out how we want to move forward. And then look at the different waves of provision with the parents.
