    There’s not a lot of Info here but reading between the lines “adult led exercises are triggering” suggests severe anxiety.

    If the child is working significantly below expectation (ie 2 or more years behind) then would it be more appropriate to assess against eyfs at the level they *are* operating and you could do this through play / child initiated activities?

    If the child is working at half his age or below this would be wholly appropriate.

    Severe anxiety around perceived demands (or demand avoidance, whether you want to describe it as pathological or not) is extremely difficult to work with and the only way to help these children is to reduce the anxiety and let them feel they have more control.

    This is true whether the anxiety is linked to trauma, autism etc

    Techniques that work with other children will not work with these children. They often need a whole raft of approaches as what works one day won’t work the next.

    There’s lots of advice on various PDA support websites.

    But it is never easy with these children and I would be getting the EP involved at an early stage in tandem with 2 cycles of assess plan do review ready for EHCNA.
