An application for 25% extra time for a learner with an official diagnosis of ASD/ADHD can be made using JCQ Form 9, provided that the arrangement represents their normal way of working in the centre. Evidence of need will have to be provided from teaching staff along with specialist evidence. You’ll be able to find full details of what evidence is required in Form 9 and in the JCQ Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments (AARA) document. Access arrangements are subject specific so extra time can be applied for in the subjects where teachers have noted a need for the arrangement and have shown it to be effective. Supervised rest breaks (and alternative rooming arrangements) can be applied for – again using Form 9 – either in conjunction with 25% extra time or as a stand-alone arrangement.
