Depending on which version you are using, Immersive Reader does have other features which would not be allowed in exams, including access to a dictionary. The main difference, however, between using Immersive Reader and other forms of text-to-speech is that you have to export text to the Immersive Reader environment. and I do not think this would be possible if you are working with the PDF version of the exam paper that exam boards provide.
