    We use an overlay for the same reasons, with Year 10 student. I believe it it gives him ownership, which means he has the responsibility to remember to use it. This in turn goes with the themes of approaching adulthood and independence: it’s a strategy to help him overcome a need. (The teachers have spares of course, and prompt him if he forgets)
