We are close to county boundary and in one area, GPs are allowed to the do the referrals and in another, schools have to do them. I can also vouch for the transformative effect of medication for some pupils, but I also do some limited cognitive assessment first – especially where the traits/impact may not be outside the normal range of variation and the child is coping well. This enables us to put strategies in place to support all aspects of learning while waiting for the assessment (2-3 years).
