Could this be general lack of exam technique – spending too long/ writing too much on earlier/ shorter questions, not understanding the way to use the marks scheme as a rough timing guide? All pupils should be getting some help with this anyway. Or is his handwriting particularly slow ? Or does he find it difficult to get started? Or does he have too much to say ?

TBH I think I would do better nowadays typing than writing in an exam – a few times I’ve had to scribe for a pupil and ended up with a very aching arm! But he shouldn’t be given an unfair advantage over “normal” pupils
