Harry Thompson, a leading voice in the PDA discussion, prefers to refer to it as Pervasive Demand for Autonomy. When a PDAer does not feel in control of a situation, they flip into Fight, flight, freeze or fawn. This is driven by fear. It is not a choice for them.
