I imagine it would depend upon the area you work in. In Kent, schools can apply for funding for children with Type 1 in KS1. With this funding, an adult can be employed to support the child. Having said that, my daughter was diagnosed in Year R with Type 1 and never had additional support. The class TA provided support when required. I suppose it depends upon how independent the child is in managing their care and how stable their levels are.
