My daughter has Visual stress, wears tinted glasses and uses tinted paper. The test is not available on the NHS, costs around £100 and is “intuitive” ie patients move towards the colours that help them best.
I’ve paid hundreds of pounds over the years getting her tested annually to check the colour remains the same on the opthalmologists advice, it’s never changed! The lenses are also not available on the NHS and it’s not an affordable option for many parents. I’m lucky I can afford it and she’s been able to at least have a chance of reading fluently although she’s not keen on it, even with the glasses.
I would suggest to parents that tests are available but also give students the option of seeing if coloured paper helps as they will definitely know if it does. If they are unsure, it isn’t helping!
