There are some fantastic resources on NAS and autistica as well as Call Scotland (apps that support maximum independence). My son (21 now) loved it when he found out about the Autism Act and the Equality Act. He felt that he could “insist that people take his needs into consideration.” He’s 21 now and just finishing his second degree. He has said “that there are advantages and disadvantages.” Yes going to see a fiction film for him is hard as he can’t follow the plot easily, hairdryer/ hand dryer noise is tricky but remembering tube maps and text books has its benefits. He also believes that knowing what is hard, why it is hard and then finding a way round it via his diagnosis has been a huge help for him.
