I went through to upper pay scale as a non teaching SENCo. Have a look at the criteria for progression to upper pay scale – as I remember that wasn’t the teaching standards but was more about having done leadership type things in the school which was easy to evidence as a SENCo. It was a few years ago I did this though so am assuming things haven’t changed. Plenty of non teaching SENCos do get paid on UPS though so being a non teaching SENCo should not be a bar to going on to UPS
