I completed the SENDCo course whilst working as a SENDCo. There were five major assignments to complete. I spent each ‘holiday’ completing the next assignment and catching up on any ‘session reflections’ and ‘competency evidence’ from previous sessions and the previous half-term at school.
In the summer break I decided on my research theme, did the literature review (assignments 3 and 4) and mapped out the research timetable.
There was not a question of me trying to fit in the study alongside my role during term time.
It was intensely difficult and I had to aim for a minimum level pass rather than try and achieve any academic improvement. It was the same for my whole cohort – we just needed it over so we could get on and do the job that some of us were already doing before being ‘trained’ in how to do it.
