We have had success in a really similar Year 2 situation but it has involved a fair amount of 1:1 time between the child and sports coach (who leads our school PE) – initially separate short skills sessions, then just as a 1:1 run through of what each lesson or session will involve. Now during sessions the coach follows all of the normal guidance (use of child’s name, short clear instructions, modelling etc) but also tries to prevent any escalation by giving the child ‘jobs’ or responsibilities, some of which include having a movement break or going elsewhere in the school.
