The other thing that occurred to me – as someone who worked in a speech and language centre and knows how SLCN impacts every part of learning – was that a life skills & independent living curriculum such as a special school might run might be of more benefit. Managing money, paying bills, navigating websites and apps needed to run life admin, using public transport, following instructions, exploring work placements that sit in line with the student’s strengths, for example. Student and parent views should also be sought on aspirations, next steps and future plans in each annual review so the last annual review would be a good place to start.
