Just because a 4 is considered a ‘pass’ in terms of school progress measures, 1,2 and 3 are all passes and qualifications and for some children a good way to show progress of skills on nationally recognised tests. There are other gateway qualifications, but if the child is wanting to stay in post 16 education they will be doing GCSE English and maths till they ‘pass’ or become 18. So for English and Maths it might be worth them doing the GCSEs….just a thought!
